Scott Akers | Director of Instruction

Scott Akers is our Director of Instruction at The Golf Academy of Dallas. His background includes working at two Top 100 Golf Courses. His teaching mentors include Top 100 Teacher Rick McCord and the late Walker Inman Jr.

Scott attended Mississippi State University and graduated with a Professional Golf Management Degree. He has been a PGA Member since 2000 and has been published eight times both in local and regional publications. He has taught over 47,000 private golf lessons and incorporates 3D technology in his lessons. His teaching philosophy incorporates an approach on the fundamentals and he offers a complete golf experience which includes full swing, short game, putting and playing lessons. He has also been certified through the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI). Scott is currently instructing Texas Woman’s Amateur Golf Association Champion and the Texas Legends Junior Player of the year.

Randy Beardsley | PGA Teaching Professional

Randy has been in the golf industry for 34 years including, Private, Public, and Resort facilities. He has been teaching full time for the last 8 years. Prior to those 8 years, Randy spent his time in golf operations from “Top to bottom, wearing all the hats”.

His specialty is adult individual private lessons for, Beginners, Intermediate, and Advanced golfers, giving up to 500 plus annually.

The highlight of Randy’s golf career was working at The Four Seasons Resort and Club for 10 years, five of which serving as Tournament Director, and lead ambassador of The Salesmanship Club of Dallas during the Byron Nelson Pro-Am’s from 1999 thru 2004. Ultimately receiving Manager of the Quarter in Spring of 2003.

His teaching philosophy is teaching the golf swing from impact backwards enabling the student to gain a sense of moving through impact in a forward fashion. Teaching good fundamentals that serve each individual for their specific needs and ability.

Gaining a “friend in Golf” through good customer service, and exceptional instruction is his ultimate goal for all of his students.

Clayton Derr | PGA Associate & Operations Manager

Clayton Derr has been at Tenison Park and in the golf business for 25 years. He began as an outside services employee working his way up becoming the Operations Manager at Tenison Park, learning all the facets of the industry along the way. Clayton has studied and learned the golf swing with the help of several PGA golf professionals throughout the past 25 years including the current Tenison Park Director of Instruction, Scott Akers. Joseph Nall is one of our newest editions at Tenison Park. He has continued studying the golf swing under Scott Akers for the past year, but by no means is he a stranger to the game. Joseph grew up in the Lake Highlands area where he began playing golf at the age of 10, and soon after would call Tenison Park his home course. He played competitively all throughout high school before attending Texas A&M University, where he co-founded A&M’s first club golf team in the Spring of 2012. After graduating in the Spring of 2016 with a master’s degree in taxation, he entered the corporate accounting world and would stay there for the next five years before finally chasing his dream of becoming a PGA Professional.

Joseph is currently working on obtaining his PGA membership while giving lessons and continually learning under the supervision of Scott. Joseph’s teaching philosophy focuses on taking what a student does well naturally, then incorporating solid fundamentals to create a swing that is both reliable and repeatable for that individual. He believes that what might work well for one person may not be applicable to others. Everyone possesses unique characteristics that are integral to their swing. Golf is not a “one-size fits all” sport.

Troy Worthy is the Assistant Golf Professional at Tenison Park Golf Course. Troy began playing the game of golf at the age of 5 and played competitively through his first two years of college. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology in 2016. Under the guidance of head teaching professional, Scott Akers, Troy has developed a teaching style that is both comprehensive and tailored to the individual needs of his students. Troy is a PGA Associate and is working towards his full membership. His teaching philosophy centers around the idea that every golfer is unique, and the key to improvement lies in understanding each player’s strengths, weaknesses, and goals. Woods Norcross | PGA Associate Assisant Professional

A Dallas native, Woods grew up in Lake Highlands and played his first junior golf tournament at Tenison at 8 years of age. He played golf at Lake Highlands High School and is a graduate of Texas A&M University. Woods was coached by Randy Smith and developed his teaching philosophy under Tenison Park Director of Instruction, Scott Akers. He believes golf is a lifelong game and that it encourages valuable life skills. Woods Enjoys teaching players of all ages and stage of their golf experience. His intuitive nature allows him to quickly identify the best approach for each student, with a strong focus on the fundamentals of the game.
